Waihi Gold Mine Tours with Cruise Tauranga (great for families and photographers)

The small town of Waihi in the Bay of Plenty has been associated with goldmining for over 150 years and gold is still mind there commercially. The original mines and tunnels nestling at the junction of two rivers in the Karangahake Gorge, are now overgrown, reclaimed by native rain forest. Once a thriving town with trains, railways, music theatres and schools, all that remains are the old mining tunnels (some can be explored), tramlines, rusting machinery and the old 'stamper batteries'. The rivers are clear and full of a trout and crossed by swing bridges. It's a great day out for families and photographers.

Tour length 7-8 hours

Group of 2 $325, Group of 4 $240, Group of 6 or more $150
